Ancient Tension

Three crows chase a furry owl

through a dark pine grove at noon:

black shadowy attack

over a measured, harried retreat.

Staking out territory

is an ancient tension.

A wise trapper gets out early

to make his rounds.

“Hunters just as soon take a trap

as a coon,” as they say.
